Q + A- Homeowner Corner
(Homepage)
Q. How long will my Custom
Bilt Metals’ roof last?
A. Our roofs carry lifetime warranties; our Last-Time™
brand name says it all.
Q. Should I be concerned
with rusting?
A. No, our roofs are coated with Kynar 500, which prevents
rust.
Q. Will it be safe to
walk on my roof for maintenance?
A. Being virtually maintenance free eliminates the need
to walk on your roof, though it is okay to do so.
Q. In the event of an
earthquake, how will my roof hold up on safety?
A. Being extremely lightweight and somewhat flexible,
metal roofing is the most durable roofing product when
it comes to earthquakes. Some of our roofs weigh about
8 times less than that of concrete tile. Generally,
a metal roof weighs about .5-2pounds per square foot.
Q. What about fire?
A. Metal roofing will not burn, it is noncombustible.
As mentioned above, being lightweight, it will delay
a roof collapse, maybe even preventing it overall.
Q. Will my new roof make
it too hot in our house during the summer months?
A. No, our metal roofing reflects UV rays using the
Cool Roof®
Coatings System. Concrete tile and asphalt shingles
actually store heat. Having a metal roof will actually
lower your air conditioning costs.
Q. During rain storms,
should I expect my metal roof to be noisy?
A. Actually, on the contrary, they reduce any noise
transfers there might be. Homeowners think of the old
barn roof that is exposed from the inside. Metal roofing
is installed over a solid substrate where attic space
and insulation provide sound barriers.
Q. Will rain leave dirt
and other debris on my metal roof?
A. No, the Kynar 500 coating will allow the next rain
or a simple hosing off to remove any dirt and debris.
Q. Will I need to build
up or restructure my house?
A. No, unlike concrete title, metal roofing is lightweight.
No restructuring will have to be done.
Q. What is the actual
fire rating of your metal roofs?
A. Depending on the underlayments and the substrates,
our roofs can provide Class A rating. Reports are available
on each individual product.
Q. When will my roof
start to fade, if at all?
A. Our coatings warranty the finish not to fade for
35 years.
Q. Will my new roof actually
increase the value of my home?
A. Aesthetics aside, your new roof adds value to your
home knowing it will be the Last-Time a roof need to
be applied to your house.
Q. Is the product manufactured
in the United States?
A. All of Custom Bilt Metals’ product is proudly manufactured
in the U.S.A.
Q. How will my roof hold
up in hurricane winds?
A. In addition to being tested, the recent hurricanes
in Florida and the Gulf Coast showed no match for our
roofs. Most metal roofs will hold up in 120MPH winds,
which is equal to a F2 tornado.
Q. Does the metal thickness
affect the emissivity of roof?
A. No, that is a direct result of our Cool Roof®
Coatings.
Q. Does Metal roofing
attract lightning?
A. Lighting is attracted to the highest point, which
necessarily, might not be metal. If in fact your roof
does get hit by lightning, it can prevent your home
from catching on fire because it will dissipate the
electrical charge.
Q. Will my metal roof
stick out like a sore thumb in my neighborhood?
A. Today’s metal roofing is made to look exactly like
common roofing material, such as asphalt shingles, wood
shakes, and concrete and slate tile. The only difference
is that metal roofing is durable, stronger, and holds
a lifetime warranty.
